The famous Wood Violins Viper is back and better than ever. The Limited series feature the rarest of custom finishes that are available only in small numbers.

Visually, its raucous flying V shape speaks for itself, but this is no case of form over function. The Viper's wings envelope you, while its adjustable shoulder strap and support arm system hold the instrument, leaving you hands free to dance, jump about, play keys, or rock the mic.

Finish Options

Choose from Silver Sparkle with matching silver hardware, a Annie Haslem custom painted art top finish, and the Mark Wood Replica finish, which features a cherry sunburst birdseye maple exotic top.

*Please allow for some variance in the wood figure and Mark Wood Replica finish.

**The Annie Haslem sample painted finishes shown are for example only. When you order a custom Annie Haslem Viper you will have an opportunity to communicate with the artist so she can develop a palette and design to suit your taste.

Fingerboard Options

Your Viper fingerboard can be configured fretless, fretted, or with Phantom fretted. If you prefer the classical feel, go fretless at no additional cost.

Frets are intended to help ensure that violinists playing in loud environments (e.g. rock band with guitar and drums) can play in tune even when they can’t hear themselves particularly well. Frets also give the fingerboard a visual component that some players find creatively helpful and also aid in transposing finger patterns into different keys.

Standard frets: Wood Violins standard frets are what we call “locator” frets, because they provide a visual and tactile means of locating a pitch on the fingerboard but, unlike guitar-style frets, they are somewhat flattened and do not “break” the string. Therefore, you place finger on top of the fret to play in tune. This clever design also means that vibrato and glissando are not inhibited by the raised fret. Mark Wood’s patented dot pattern aids in finding 5th, Octave, 12th and other important positions on the fretboard.

Phantom frets: Wood Violins’ Phantom frets are real frets that have been filed down even with the surface of the fingerboard to provide a visual means of locating a pitch on the fingerboard.  Mark Wood’s patented dot pattern aids in finding 5th, Octave, 12th and other important positions on the fretboard. For players who find the feel of raised frets unnatural but still want the visual aid for pitch location (or simply because frets look cool), then Phantom frets are a perfect compromise!
