The famous Wood Violins Viper is back and better than ever. The PRO series is for serious players who want an iconic look to go with incredible tone and the playing comfort and freedom that only a Viper can provide! Configure your Viper with 4, 5, 6, or 7 strings, and choose from one of four time-honored finishes.

Visually, its raucous flying V shape speaks for itself, but this is no case of form over function. The Viper's wings envelope you, while its adjustable shoulder strap and support arm system hold the instrument, leaving you hands free to dance, jump about, play keys, or rock the mic.

Finish Options

Choose between two gloss painted finish options--Midnight Black and Arctic White--or opt for either of two wood grain tops with classic finishes--Tobacco Burst and Cherry Burst.

Your Viper PRO fingerboard can be configured fretless, fretted, or Phantom fretted. Frets are intended to help ensure that violinists playing in loud environments (e.g. rock band with guitar and drums) can play in tune even when they can’t hear themselves particularly well. Frets also give the fingerboard a visual component that some players find creatively helpful and also aid in transposing finger patterns into different keys.

*Please allow for some small variance in the wood figure and burst edge for Tobacco and Cherry burst finishes.

Fret options

Standard frets: Wood Violins standard frets are what we call “locator” frets, because they provide a visual and tactile means of locating a pitch on the fingerboard but, unlike guitar-style frets, they are somewhat flattened and do not “break” the string. Therefore, you place finger on top of the fret to play in tune. This clever design also means that vibrato and glissando are not inhibited by the raised fret. Mark Wood’s patented dot pattern aids in finding 5th, Octave, 12th and other important positions on the fretboard.

Phantom frets: Wood Violins’ Phantom frets are real frets that have been filed down even with the surface of the fingerboard to provide a visual means of locating a pitch on the fingerboard.  Mark Wood’s patented dot pattern aids in finding 5th, Octave, 12th and other important positions on the fretboard. For players who find the feel of raised frets unnatural but still want the visual aid for pitch location (or simply because frets look cool), then Phantom frets are a perfect compromise!

Pickup options

The Viper PRO comes standard equipped with a ForteVio Viper pickup, specially designed by ForteVio's Valentin Hristov to fit and sound great with the Viper! The ForteVio pickup combines rich, woody tone with balance and nuance across the full range of 4 to 7 strings, all backed by tremendous power that punches right through with any effects. The ForteVio is quickly becoming the new standard for electric violin pickups, known not only for its incredible sound but also its reliability.

Barbera pickups are available upon special request only, and will add to the cost and delivery time of your Viper.
