This Stratton Gypsy 4-string is finished in a gorgeous new color -- lighter and a little less red than the ginger/auburn violins, this instrument is almost a sepia tone, with a nicely-figured flamed maple neck whose peg pox really stands out due to the transparent stain. Excellent tone is provided by a Starfish Designs transducer bridge, and Electric Violin Shop includes a lightweight, dart-shaped case.

The Gypsy by Jeff Stratton--creator of the radical death's head Skull model violins--takes some of the weathered, carved, and custom elements from the Skull design and incorporates them into a slightly more traditional look. The Gypsy's style is still 100% Stratton, with many of the same custom touches that make Jeff's violins stand out from an increasingly-crowded market.

If you were drawn to the hand-carved, weathered look of Jeff Stratton's "Skull" violins, but couldn't reconcile the idea of a death's-head violin with the reality that it wouldn't fit in at some of the venues where you play, then the Gypsy may be just what you're looking for. It's got many of the same design elements and carved details that make the Skulls so popular, but in a more traditional violin shape. This particular skull is a warm, reddish sepia-tone, with a beautifully-flamed peg box that's perfectly highlighted by the transparent finish. It's a really gorgeous example of Jeff Stratton's work.

This Stratton Gypsy electric violin is powered by a Starfish Designs transducer bridge. It's a little quieter than the Barbera, but has exceptional clarity of sound and is extremely well-balanced across the instrument's range. The result is a warm, natural tone that sounds great when used in "clean" acoustic styles, but is also well-suited for use with high-gain effects or in high-volume settings.
