Intricately hand carved in the form of an elaborate Native American headdress, this 4-string Stratton Skull "Noble Blood" electric violin is a truly amazing work of art. As amazing as the three-dimensional carving of the headdress is, one of the details that really makes this ultra-custom Stratton Skull electric violin stand is the depth and richness of its color. Warm, reddish browns are shot through with streaks of red, the colors adding yet another level of complexity to the detail of this heavily carved instrument.

The "Noble Blood" Headdress Strattion Skull is a 5-string electric violin, available with either a Barbera Twin Hybrid bridge or a Starfish Designs bridge, at the buyer's choice.

Electric violin maker and wood carver extraordinaire Jeff Stratton builds instruments in his shop in Bulgaria, sourcing the sycamore body wood and Balkan flamed maple neck wood locally.

This hand carved Stratton electric violin features the image of a skull wearing an incredibly ornate Native American style headress. The detailed carving of this instrument is absolutely stunning -- from the broad cuts in the body that make it look like aged driftwood to the close up detail of individual feathers, Jeff has put hours of sweat and effort into make this instrument flawless; the matching end button, volume knob, and tail piece are cast metal, to keep the look integrated. Even the color of the instrument, rich driftwood and reddish brown, shot through with splashes and rivulets of red, like spilt blood, goes the extra step to add depth and complexity to the look of the instrument.

#5 in a numbered series of one-of-a-kind instruments, each one of these Stratton electric violins is incredibly detailed in all aspects. From the initial design of each piece, to the elaborate hand carving of the work, all the way down the richness and depth of each instrument's color, Jeff Stratton has just put so much thought and energy into making sure that every detail is perfect for that particular violin.

This violin also has a highly-decorated custom cast metal volume knob, end button, and tailpiece, the last embossed with the Stratton Violin logo, and the violin comes with a basic violin case. It will accommodate most standard violin shoulder rests.

We are offering this violin with your choice of Starfish Designs or Barbera Transducer Systems Twin Hybrid pickups. Please indicate your selection on this page and allow an extra day or two for processing as we will need to wire the pickup before shipping.

The Starfish is a multi-transducer piezo pickup offering excellent natural and balanced violin tone, with good warmth and a little darkness. While it offers a strong output signal it has a little less punch and presence than a Barbera bridges.

The Barbera bridge integrates separate transducers for each string. Barbara pickups produce exceptional tone with strong, balanced output that is good for clean acoustic styles that can cut through a mix, and ideal for use with high-gain effects or in high-volume settings.

The following videos give sound samples along with a spectrum analyzer, allowing you to compare the tones of the Starfish vs. Barbera across their full frequency range for both clean and distorted tones.
