To bring the compelling design of his popular Skull violin to a wider audience, maker Jeff Stratton has streamlined his production process, eliminating some of the hand carving that makes each Semi-custom Skull unique, and simplifying the scroll design. The result is a striking and attractive instrument at a much more affordable price.

This "Shipwreck" White fretted Stratton Skull Standard is a both a beautiful instrument and clear value -- a striking, affordable fretted electric violin with great amplified tone from the Starfish Designs multi-transducer pickup bridge. Its output is a little quieter than a Barbera bridge, but it's also a slightly warmer, clear tone with an open sound that sounds a bit more like an acoustic violin to some ears.

The Skull Standard is a conscious effort on Jeff Stratton's part to make the dynamic look and powerful sound of his instrument more attainable to musicians on a budget. Simplifying the scroll design and eliminating some of the hand carving that made the shape of Semi-Custom Stratton Skull unique resulted in reduced weight and a substantial decrease in the price of the violin.

The addition of frets makes this four-string "Shipwreck" white Skull one of the most affordable fretted violins on the market. Stratton Violins are usually equipped with Barbera bridges, but this fretted 4-string Shipwreck Skull has a Starfish Designs multi-transducer pickup, instead. The weathered looks of the "Shipwreck" finishes have been incredibly popular.

Jeff Stratton's design aesthetic yields striking instruments that really speak to their players. Mimicking natural shapes and textures, his electric violins look bold and unusual but preserve all of the physical reference points of your acoustic violin. The result is a unique expression of Jeff's artistic vision that feels like your regular violin, if a little heavier.

The in-your-face appearance of this four-string Stratton electric violin is more than just bravado; while the Starfish Designs bridge doesn't boast quite as much output as the Barbera bridges, its amplified tone is warm, rich, and clear, with more of an open, ringing tone than the Barbera. The Starfish is an awesome choice for acoustic styles, but is also well-suited for use with effects and in high-volume situations.

A dart-shaped, plywood shell case is included.
