The unique and sumptuous Olivar violin is the handmade creation of guitar luthier Antonio Benito López, from Spain. This violin combines numerous elegant design features and lovely woods into a very lightweight, easy-to-play masterpiece of sight and sound.
With a headless design, the Olivar is strung "backwards" into geared tuning pegs nearest the player, which are mounted in an unconventional but inventive, space-saving configuration. This layout contributes to an even lighter feel of an already lightweight instrument. The output jack is positioned in the center on the back, which is nice for directing your cable to the floor so it doesn't tug at you while playing, or for obscuring a wireless transmitter.
A dual pickup system provides great tonal flexibility. First, there is Olivar's own under-bridge piezo pickup, which has a warm, dulcet sound, perfect for blending into a mix or playing espressivo. Secondly, an LR Baggs bridge provides an alternative bright tone, which will cut right through when it's time to solo! Switching between these pickups is easy, as the toggling is controlled by pushing in or pulling out the volume knob, located underneath the instrument near the output jack.
A small upper bout piece indicates the extent of a standard acoustic violin body, for players who appreciate that reference point but also like the freedom of unobstructed access to the highest playing positions. The frame design outlines a full-width lower violin bout, allowing you to attach most standard violin shoulder rests for your playing comfort. The central-to-upper portions of the frame feature a tasteful dark purfling, which outlines the lighter central wood in a visually striking manner.
